2011 BCS: Ohio State Buckeyes Odds and Predictions
The Ohio State Buckeyes will open the 2010 college football predictions as 6-1 favorites in 2011 BCS odds at online sportsbooks to win the national championship. Ohio State should be ranked 2nd or 3rd in most national polls when they come out and will be favored to win the Big Ten Conference. Last year the Buckeyes finished as Big Ten and Rose Bowl champions with a mark of 11-2 straight up and a highly profitable 9-4 against the spread in college football betting odds. Most important the Buckeyes 26-17 win in the Rose Bowl over Oregon helped ease the stereotype that they are slow and un-athletic and cannot matchup with fast teams.
Heading into 2010 college football predictions, Ohio State will return a highly experienced team starting with 10 year coach Jim Tressel, who has done a remarkable job over the past decade at making the Buckeyes a perennial Big Ten contender that has won 5 consecutive league titles. They have also dominated arch rival Michigan during his tenure. Ohio State will have 9 starters returning on offense led by junior quarterback Terrelle Pryor, who had a strong second half of the season in 2009. Pryor is something of a hybrid in that he rushed for over 1,000 yards while throwing for over 2000 yards and 18 touchdowns.
Ohio State will return 8 starters on a defense that last year pitched 3 shutouts and held a total of 6 opponents to 10 points or less in a game. The big challenge for Ohio State will be road games against two of the better teams in the Big Ten. They will play at Wisconsin on October 16th and at Iowa on November 20th. They also have tough but winnable home games against Miami on September 11th and Penn State on November 13th. Ohio State has been a cash cow in conference games with a mark of 28-12 against the spread in college football odds and 5 consecutive profitable seasons in league play. Tressel has built a machine that has a good shot to make it to the BCS title game this season.
